Robotics

Pure-play investing in the age of automation

From driverless cars to heart surgery – robots are becoming ubiquitous. As the need for smart automation solutions is rising, we expect continued growth, opening up interesting investment opportunities.

Why invest in robotics?

Engineering, artificial intelligence, and comprehensive connectivity are coming together to take robotics to the next level.

From boosting productivity in conventional fields to revolutionizing everything from medicine and agriculture to household chores and transportation, robots are penetrating into all areas of modern life.

As their reliability and versatility increase and prices drop, robots are set to become, in a word, ubiquitous.

A theme about the future

The robotics theme is all about the future. A niche for now, robotics offers investors access to a strategy that harbors remarkable potential based on productivity growth – a true long-term source of wealth. With the supply of robots expected to show compound annual growth rates in the medium to upper single-digits over the coming years1, we believe that investing now will enable investors to get in early, when growth is particularly attractive.

The investment case is supported by compelling drivers such as continuous advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies, which make automation solutions smarter, more affordable, and easier and safer to use. Automation may solve many global issues, such as labor shortages, the need to reduce waste and operate more sustainably, and the need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of workers.

Our robotics investment fund

The Credit Suisse (Lux) Robotics Equity Fund focuses on pure-play companies that provide robotics or automation solutions.2 The fund offers an opportunity to invest in innovative companies at the forefront of a developing long-term secular growth trend along three subthemes: improving productivity; improving quality of life; and performing dangerous tasks. The portfolio typically consists of 40 to 60 stocks, many of which are small- to mid-cap in size.

The fund applies exclusions and integrates ESG3 considerations into the investment process following the principles of the Credit Suisse Sustainable Investment Framework.
